Emergence of giant cycles and slowdown transition in random transpositions and k-cycles

چکیده
Consider the random walk on the permutation group obtained when the step distribution is uniform on a given conjugacy class. It is shown that there is a critical time at which two phase transitions occur simultaneously. On the one hand, the random walk slows down abruptly: the acceleration (i.e., the second time derivative of the distance) drops from 0 to −∞ at this time as n → ∞. On the other hand, the largest cycle size changes from microscopic to giant. The proof of this last result is considerably simpler and holds more generally than in a previous result of Oded Schramm [19] for random transpositions. It turns out that in the case of random k-cycles, this critical time is proportional to 1/[k(k− 1)], whereas the mixing time is known to be proportional to 1/k.

On the phase transition in random simplicial complexes
It is well known that the G(n, p) model of random graphs undergoes a dramatic change around p = 1 n . It is here that the random graph, almost surely, contains cycles, and here it first acquires a giant (i.e., order Ω(n)) connected component. Several years ago, Linial and Meshulam introduced the Yd(n, p) model, a probability space of n-vertex d-dimensional simplicial complexes, where Y1(n, p) c...
متن کاملThe Effects of Oil Price Shocks on Transitional Dynamics of Business Cycles in Iran: Markov Switching Model with Time Varying Transition Probabilities (MS-TVTP)
The business cycles are one of the most important economic indicators that they show the changes in economic activities during time. The study of business cycles is important because the understanding fluctuations in GDP and effective factors on these fluctuations help policy makers to plan better and more efficient. The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the effects of oil price shoc...
متن کاملPotassium status of two clayey calcareous soils treated with zeolite under wetting-drying cycles
Zeolite application to clayey soils may change potassium (K) pools distribution and its release rate. To test this hypothesis, two heavy-textured calcareous soils with different mineralogy (smectitic and mixed by XRD) from southern Iran were selected. Experiment was a completely randomized factorial arrangement. Treatments consisted of two soils and two zeolite levels (0 and 5%) and wetting-dry...
متن کاملAsymptotic Statistics of Cycles in Surrogate-spatial Permutations
We propose an extension of the Ewens measure on permutations by choosing the cycle weights to be asymptotically proportional to the degree of the symmetric group. This model is primarily motivated by a natural approximation to the so-called spatial random permutations recently studied by V. Betz and D. Ueltschi (hence the name “surrogatespatial”), but it is of substantial interest in its own ri...
متن کاملAsymmetric Effects of Monetary Policy and Business Cycles in Iran using Markov-switching Models
This paper investigates the asymmetric effects of monetary policy on economic growth over business cycles in Iran. Estimating the models using the Hamilton (1989) Markov-switching model and by employing the data for 1960-2012, the results well identify two regimes characterized as expansion and recession. Moreover, the results show that an expansionary monetary policy has a positive and statist...
